BOLTON Hospice has opened a new charity shop and café in Astley Bridge.

The Old Bank Café and hospice shop have relocated from Blackburn Road to Hillview Road and will be open seven days a week.

The new café serves speciality tea and coffee, light lunches, Carrs pasties and a variety of cakes. Food can be eaten inside the shabby chic-decorated café or taken away.

Sophie Price, manager at The Old Bank Café, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the new café and are very excited to offer a fantastic menu at affordable prices for our customers.

“We offer breakfast, lunch and an amazing range of cakes and treats!”

Managers and volunteers run the café to raise money for the hospice who provide care and support for local people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses.

Samantha Lever, supervisor at The Old Bank said: “A range of different people volunteer here such as young people who want to improve their CV or those who have personal experiences with the hospice and want to give something back.”

Volunteer, Gaynor Kelly said: “I’ve been volunteering here since the café opened. I want to give something back to the hospice and build up my confidence. It’s a great place for people to come together.”

The shop stocks a range of clothing, furniture, homewares, bric-a-brac, books, CDs, DVDs, toys and games.

Shop manager, Amanda Kendall said, “Since relocating our Astley Bridge shop from Blackburn Road to Hillview Road we’ve been able to expand our range of items to include some furniture and a wider range of clothes, homewares and toys!”

The hospice is looking for volunteers to work a minimum of three hours a week in the shop or café. Weekend volunteers are especially sought after. If you are interested in volunteering call 01204 663063 or email shopsco-ordinator@boltonhospice.org.

The café is open all week from 9am to 3.30pm and closes at 3pm on Sundays but the shop opens 10am to 4pm.
