THIS year the NHS turns 70.

To celebrate the platinum anniversary Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is holding a community fun day.

There will be various stalls, health promotion activities, music and entertainment.

Giant games will be set up for families to play, including giant operation which also serves as a reminder about the importance of organ donation. Some of the hospital's departments will also be welcoming visitors including outpatients, breast and eye units.

Fundraiser Andy Lee said: "We wanted to do something to celebrate such a milestone event. Lots of us, ourselves or family members, have experienced and benefited from NHS care. This is a way of locally celebrating what the NHS means and celebrating staff, too."

As part of the event local children are invited to take part in an art competition with the theme 'Celebrating 70 years of the NHS'. Those aged four to 18 can enter, there are different age categories. For full details call the trust on 01204 390654.

The Summer Celebration takes place 11am-4pm July 7 at Royal Bolton Hospital.
