A PIONEERING psychiatrist has been awarded a CBE as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Dr Jaswinder S Bamrah is a senior consultant psychiatrist at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
He received his honour for services to mental health, the NHS and diversity after a career, which has seen him serve on the Royal College of Psychiatrists Council and as a director and council member for the British Medical Association.
Dr Bamrah, who is known as JS Bamrah, said: "It’s a great privilege to be honoured in this way especially as it highlights the three issues I’m passionate about, mental health, diversity and the NHS.
"I can only thank my many colleagues and family who’ve been so supportive over the years. And of course my patients from whom I have gained knowledge and experience."
Dr Chris Daly, medical director for GMMH, said: “We would like to congratulate Dr JS Bamrah on this prestigious honour. His work to break down barriers and help people from diverse communities to access treatment has been fantastic."
