10 YEARS AGO From the Evening News, September 21, 2000 A SNIPER brought terror to a Radcliffe school when he fired an air gun at a group of pupils.

Three schoolchildren were treated for minor injuries after the shootings which happened at playing fields at the rear of Coney Green High School yesterday. The gunman fled after firing three shots at the children.

A large police hunt was today still underway for the man. Police say the gunman discharged an air pistol at the school pupils before escaping.

All three children, who suffered pellet injuries, were taken to hospital but were released after treatment.

The incident is the latest in a spate of similar shooting incidents in the Bury area over the last month or so.

Police officers arrived at the scene within minutes of the school raising the alarm but the gunman still managed to escape.

As reported in last night’s BEN, three-years-old Eleanor Robson, of Kildare Street, has had no nationality since she was born on an Indonesian plane flying from Australia.

Her parents, Mr Fintan Cunningham and Miss Jane Robson thought they would be able to choose from a number of nationalities.

They asked if she qualified for an international passport or for passports from Indonesia, Britain, Ireland, Greece and Saudi Arabia.

But none of the countries were willing to help until this week, when an official from the Irish Embassy in London stepped in.

The family have been unable to take a holiday abroad because they could not get a passport.

As soon as the passport arrives they are to book a holiday in the Canary Islands.
