A PATHETIC pet whippet, shaking and emaciated, has been nursed back to health in Bolton — after being weaned off heroin.
The shocking case of the trusting, gentle-natured dog that became addicted to hard drugs has stunned even people who are used to dealing with the most appalling animal cruelty.
The dog was only saved because an old lady who lived near the drugs users was shocked at the way it was being under-fed — and paid them £50 to persuade them to part with it.
For weeks the dog — which has been named Timmy — has been gently nursed back to full health by Pat Graham, who runs the Lexus Greyhound Rescue charity from her home in George Street, Horwich.

FORMER soccer star Francis Lee — eight million pounds richer than he was last week — on paper — was back at his office desk in Bolton today saying that nothing had changed.
“This merger with Hazelwood Foods involves everyone here. There will be no changes and we will be working into the future,” he said.
Known as Franny Lee to millions of football followers who remember his careers as an international forward with Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City, Mr Lee rocked the financial world last week when it was announced that he had agreed to sell his Bolton-based paper converting company for £8.35 million to Hazelwood Foods of Derby.
But as he pointed out today, it was more of a merger than a takeover. Mr Lee has accepted shares, not cash, for his own and his family holdings and the deal therefore makes him a major shareholder of the enlarged Hazelwood company.

BOLTONIANS going on holiday should take precautions to ensure that their homes are intact when they return. To help the police holidaymakers should tell a neighbour and leave the house key with someone who can be trusted. No tell-tale indications should be left — cancel milk and newspaper orders.
Be sure the house is securely fastened, and that gas and water supplies are turned off.
