NEW traffic calming measures are to be introduced in Blackrod to help tackle speeding in the village.

Warning lights and road markings reminders will be implemented on Manchester Road, near Blackrod Primary School and the Youth Centre.

Horwich and Blackrod ward councillors have allocated money from the Two Towns Area Forum budget to fund these improvements.

Cllr Stephen Pickup, for Horwich and Blackrod, said: “I hope that the measures being introduced will make motorists think about their speed, enabling people to get around Blackrod more safely and reduce the risk of a serious accident taking place.”

In addition Bolton Council has approved changes to parking restrictions and provide additional parking bays throughout Blackrod to improve road safety.

Speaking about the measures, Cllr Ann Cunliffe said: “The safety of our residents is paramount and I do hope these drivers will now keep to the 30mph speed limit with these road markings to guide them.

“I also ask these drivers to put the safety of our school children and young people first by acknowledging the safety markings and lights now in location on Manchester Road.”
