FROM a welly-throwing competition to a three-legged race, there was something for everyone at St Elizabeth Church’s village green fete.
About £1,500 was raised on the day, which will be put towards the upkeep of the church in Cedar Avenue, Horwich, and the set-up of a committee to run the village green.
The fete, which was attended by between 800 and 1,000 people, featured dog displays, an egg and spoon race, live music from the Astley Bridge folk club, arts and crafts and a bonnie baby competition.
Local businesses, including Gordons Ford of Bolton, Boots of Middlebrook Retail Park and J Greeley butchers of Horwich, made donations for the fete.
Organiser Andy Ferrier said: “We are overwhelmed with the support we’ve had.People have said this is what the community needs to get everyone together again.
“I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came and helped out on the day.”
Saturday’s fete was the first time since The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 that an event like this had been held at St Elizabeth Church’s village green.
Guests included the mayor of Horwich, Cllr Richard Silvester, Bolton West MP Julie Hilling and Bolton’s most successful Paralympian, Tony Griffin.
