ADVERTS have been posted online for a controversial Blackrod housing development which residents claim are confusing potential buyers.

Property website Zoopla has displayed artists impressions of what the seven-house development on the site of the former Greenbarn Inn in Manchester Road could look like when it is finished.

But local people have now voiced concerns about the online advert, stating that it could confuse potential buyers over its claim that there are views of Rivington from the plot.

David Cuerden, owner of Cuerden Homes, disputes the claim and says there are views of Rivington from the master bedrooms and that nobody is being misled.

The website says the homes will offer “a rare opportunity to have their bespoke dream home in the quiet and popular area of Blackrod.”

It continues: “The plot has spectacular views over Rivington and the surrounding area, with the design of the house taking maximum advantage through the use of full height floor to ceiling glazing.”

Amongst the images attached is one of the proposed views over Rivington, but Blackrod locals have queried the claim.

Marilyn Sweet, aged 61, has lived in Lymbridge Drive in the village for 30 years. She said: “Those views just aren’t right.

"I have been round the back of the site and all you can see is people’s gardens, fencing and garages.

"There is not a cat in hell’s chance of seeing Rivington from there.”

Gary Jones lives behind the site. He said: “They won’t be able to see Rivington through our house, we can’t see it because there are houses in front of us.”

Mrs Sweet also said residents were worried about the proximity of the proposed houses to the busy Manchester Road.

She said: “That road can be horrendous and it looks like plot one would be just inches from it. The advert makes it look quiet and residential, it is very misleading.

“If a child or a dog ran out of the door it could be really dangerous.”

Permission was given to Wigan-based Cuerden Developments to build four houses back in 2012 and last year the council gave the green light for a further three homes to be built on the site of the former pub, which has since been demolished.

Mr Cuerden said: “There will be views to Rivington from the master bedroom of the new houses, which will be built within the roof space.

“We are not lying to anyone or trying to mislead anybody. It’s a big development, and we’ve created 100 jobs in the local area, all using local sources to help support the local economy.

“There’s only a handful of plots. We sold two houses to two really nice families with new babies. We’re helping good, working people move into that area.”
