MONEY raised at a "night of the living dead" event has been given to a charity to help keep people alive.

The Town Mayor of Horwich, Cllr Richard Silvester, organised a World Zombie Day charity dinner in October, which was held at the Bengal Cottage Restaurant in Lee Lane.

The event raised £300, which Cllr Silvester has now handed over to the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, his chosen charity for his mayoral year, to help them attend to emergencies in the countryside around Bolton and beyond.

The dinner event saw guests honouring World Zombie Day by dressing as spooky characters and Cllr Silvester said everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

He added: "People got dressed up in all kinds of outfits. I went as Count Dracula and there were headless horsemen and plenty of zombies — we all did Michael Jackson's Thriller routine several times on the night."

The mayor presented a cheque to Gillian Gregory, secretary of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, at a presentation in Horwich's Public Hall.
