A COMMUNITY event in memory of the late former co-owner of Curley's Trout Fishery takes place in Horwich on Sunday.

Mike Roden, who managed the fishery and was a fly-fishing instructor, died recently.

As a result, the North West Nomads Fly Fishing Club have organised a memorial mini-competition celebrating Mr Roden's life.

Mr Roden, who was born in Stockport and grew up in Westhoughton, had a successful career in management with MFI before becoming a classified advertising sales representative with the Bolton Evening News.

He went on to work for a marketing company where Sky TV was a client, before becoming a fly-fishing instructor.

Mr Roden had more than 30 years experience of fly-fishing and would regularly offer tuition to visitors at Curley's. The fishing competition, entitled the Mike Roden Memorial Shield, will take place at Curley's in Wallsuches, opposite Chorley Old Road, Horwich.

Fishing will take place from 8.30am to noon and 1pm to 4pm.

The entry fee per angler is £25 and is limited to 25 places, which are available on a first come first serve basis.

Raffle prizes are needed and any donated contributions will be greatly received.

All proceeds from this event will go to The British Heart Foundation.
