THE owners of a bungalow have been granted permission to extend it – despite objections from six neighbours.

Objectors complained the plans to demolish half a double garage at the side of a detached bungalow in Buckingham Avenue, Horwich and replace it with an extension would be “out of character” for the street and make the remaining garage “an eyesore”.

But councillors approved the proposals at a town hall planning committee meeting on Thursday, although members did raise concerns about the quality of the drawings and plans.

Peter Bibby, speaking against the plans on behalf of the applicant’s neighbour, said the extension would impact negatively on the street scene.

He added: “These plans will leave the neighbouring property’s garage an eyesore visible to passers-by.

“If they are allowed to proceed they will cause immense harm to the appearance of the neighbouring property.”

But in their report, council planners said the proposals “would not affect the outlook and living conditions of the neighbouring properties as no main windows would be affected”.

Planners also said many of the other bungalows in Buckingham Avenue had extensions which had totally changed their design, so the street scene would not be impacted.

The application was approved by the committee, but Cllr Bob Allen said he was surprised the plans had been accepted considering the poor quality of the drawings and plans.
