A WRITER is looking for a cast of 13 people to feature in a new sitcom, to be filmed at Horwich Leisure Centre.

Simon Powell, who has been in the TV industry for more than 15 years, is writing a six episode sitcom, based on a six men in their quest to become personal trainers.

The 45-year-old will be holding auditions in January to film a pilot of the show which will then be pitched to BBC3 and Comedy Central.

Mr Powell, of Horwich, said: “I did my personal training a few years ago with a group of guys from different and disparate backgrounds.

“But during the ten weeks I just started to garner more humorous situations and thought this would be a great idea for a sitcom.

“I had a look around and there wasn’t anything like it so I thought if there isn’t one and there could be one then why not write it myself.”

The sitcom will feature six men; Carl, Tom, Jimmy, Lee, Kevin and Shane on their personal trainer journey but will also follow the ‘will they, won’t they’ romance between Carl and gym worker Sally.

Mr Powell, a video producer and media manager, said: “First and foremost I want to make people laugh and people have said it is funny so that’s a good sign.

“It is all about word play and interplay and is just a slice of life.

“What we are trying to do is to just show a snap shot of people’s lives and with the hope that the ongoing love story will bring them back.

“I think a lot of people will be able to emphasise with it.”

The sitcom will be shot in one of the three gyms in Horwich Leisure Centre and in one of the onsite classrooms, which will be used exclusively for filming.

Mr Powell added: “The Leisure Centre has been brilliant and said they are really looking forward to the filming.

Auditions are on January 8, from 9am.
