A DRONE has captured a bird’s-eye view of a leisure centre development, showing the difference in size between the old and new facilities.

The aerial device was flown over Horwich and the camera snapped the construction of the new £10million leisure centre, which is being built on the car park next to the old centre in Victoria Road.

Concerns have been raised by residents about the size of the new facility.

Mick Stevens, of Horwich First, said: “If you remember when Bolton Council first announced it, they promised it would be bigger and better.

“The picture that has been taken proves that it’s not bigger at all.”

But from the picture it is not clear if the new leisure centre is taller. Work on the facility began last year after the car park was demolished in June.

A building has now begun to take form as it stays on track to open in 2018.

The steel frame structure currently houses the layout of what will become a fully-functioning centre, with work expected to be completed by September.

Construction has begun on a six-lane swimming pool and separate training pool and a four-court sports hall on the lower ground floor and a swimming pool viewing gallery, 100-station fitness suite multi-function studio with kitchen and reception area on upper floor — as well as changing room facilities.
