A DECISION to approve plans to build a new play area has been welcomed.

Bolton Council gave the green light to the construction of the toddlers' facility in Newbeck Close in The Meadows estate in Horwich.

The project, paid for by Jones Homes, who built the estate , will include a multi-play climber, a roundabout, a seesaw and a set of swings.

Cllr Stephen Pickup, Horwich and Blackrod ward representative, said: "I have lobbied hard for this play area to be built as it was promised when the original planning permission was granted.

"The Meadows estate is now well established and there is no play provision within walking distance for young children. Located near to the centre of the estate, I’m sure the new play area will prove to be popular with the many young families living nearby."

Green light for new play area despite objections from neighbours

His fellow ward councillor Ann Cunliffe said: "I welcome the addition of this toddlers play area; it will complement the existing open recreational space.

"It has been specifically designed for toddlers to take part in active healthy play in a safe fenced off area. I am sure the mums and tots are looking forward to the completion of the local play facility on The Meadows estate."
