THE inside of a multi-million pound leisure centre regeneration is 'now taking shape'.

Work has been continuing on the £10million facility in Horwich and the facility is scheduled to be completed in September.

The centre in Victoria Road will include a six-lane swimming pool, separate training pool, a four-court sports hall on the lower ground floor and a swimming pool viewing gallery.

There will also be a 100-station fitness suite multi-function studio with kitchen and reception area on upper floor — as well as changing room facilities.

A joint statement from Bolton Community Leisure Trust and Bolton Council: "Our multi-million pound redevelopment of Horwich Leisure Centre is progressing really well and the inside is now taking shape.

"Lots of work is going on behind the scenes to fit out the building, which when it opens will be a hugely important facility for the local community."

The new facility is being erected on the site of the former car park and temporary car parking has been provided.

The current centre will remain open until the new leisure centre is complete, after which the old facility will be demolished to make way for a health hub housing GP surgeries and other services.

An artist's impression of the gym was recently revealed on the Horwich Leisure Centre Facebook page.

Visitors got a first look at the leisure centre earlier this year as part of the Open Doors 2017 event.

The site was opened by builders Willmott Dixon as part of the national event aimed at attracting young people into construction.
