KNIVES were found close to a children's play area during a litter pick in Horwich.

The two blades were discovered in Old Station Park while Horwich First Community Group was carrying out the clean-up on Saturday.

One was described as an eight-inch chef's knife.

A spokesman from the group said they had been passed on to officers at Greater Manchester Police.

He added: "There is absolutely no justification for carrying knives of any size in public places.

"But to discard near a children's playground, where a child could fall on or pick them up, is despicable."

It comes after residents raised concerns about anti-social behaviour incidents around the town.
