DOMESTIC stables are to be converted into a new riding centre for disabled children.

Clare O’Donnell’s proposals a change of use of the land at Factory Hill in Horwich were given the green light when they went before planning chiefs.

The plans include four new stables, training facility and a lecture room.

Objections had been lodged with the council over the increased size of the stables, the impact on the green belt and claims the access road was not adequate.

But Ms O’Donnell told the planning committee that it was a “genuine attempt to create within the community a future for myself doing something I love and have extensive training for.” She added it would be of benefit to the community and provide a unique opportunity for disabled children.

Horwich North East Councillor Kevin McKeon spoke against the application, as the previous approval for the stables was not for commercial use.

But Cllr Nick Peel said the application was “absolutely compatible with green belt policy”. The application was approved by 15 votes to four.
