Bike hurt in head-on crash

A 22-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a head-on crash with a van in Denton.

The man was riding his Kawasaki motorbike along Taylor Lane towards Seymour Street at 9.20pm last night when he was involved in a head-on collision with a small Nissan van, registration V78 ESR.

The van, which had been travelling in the opposite direction, had begun to turn left but veered into the other side of the road, resulting in the collision.

The driver did not stop at the scene, and the van was found abandoned on Aldwyn Park Road in Audenshaw a short time later.

The 22-year-old was taken to hospital in Manchester where he is being treated for two serious breaks to his leg, a broken wrist and a possible broken collarbone. He will undergo emergency surgery to repair the breaks today.

Anyone with any information about this collision, or who thinks they might have seen the Nissan van before or after this happened, is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8809 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
