10:40am Saturday 17th November 2012 in Local
A YOUNG man is seriously ill in hospital after he suffered a head injury in a fight in Bolton town centre.
The 22-year was injured in what police have described as a "distrubance" in Nelson Square.
Officers were called about about 1.40am and the man was taken to hospital with a fracture to his face, a bleed to his brain and cuts to his head.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Another man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident.
A cordon was put up in Nelson Square while police investigated but this has now been lifted.
Access to the Crompton Place Shopping Centre car park was also blocked but this is now re-open.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the CID at Bolton on 0161 856 5740

I, Ludicrous wrote:Sounds like the Police must have been very close by, (maybe due to them 'hanging around' near Yates's) as the alleged offender was arrested at the scene and not later on somewhere else. Im sure he stood still and waited for them. But you would know that by having read it Ludicrous! Oh wait.....? Lets blame the Police for the assault happening in the 1st place, they should obviously have prevented it due to them hanging around Yates's and not Nelson square! Shame on them. Maybe the new Police commissioner can sort it.
