Under-staffed hospital ‘is a mess’, claims MP (From The Bolton News)

Julie love, dont you think it is time you told your constituents, turning up at A&E because your high heels are rubbing, clogs up the system resulting in extended and unrealistic waiting times, not to mention the cost? Get a grip Jules. The problem is with your constitutions and for Colin, if they're on obs and meds, it isn't unusual to wake people for their medication or take blood pressure, what do you expect them to do, stockpile drugs, crush them over cornflakes and run the risk of OD?

This article should be headlined, "unbelievably badly managed hospital is a mess".

Perhaps this article from the BN on the 16th of October helps explain the lack of staff?

THE number of staff calling in sick at the Royal Bolton Hospital has fallen — but it is still failing its target for staff sickness.

In August, each division across the hospital had reduced staff sickness, bringing down the month’s figure to 4.29 per cent.

But this is still falling short of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust’s internal 3.75 per cent target, and behind the Operating Framework for 2012-13, whose target is three per cent.

The figure for Bolton so far this year Bolton is 4.8 per cent.

The Trust has 5,489 members of staff, meaning in August about 235 called in sick — 30 more than their target.

At least Colin and Julie speak highly of the underpaid overworked coalface workers. I've just come out of hospital and of course you are woken for blood pressure, heart rate and medication if it needs to be done on a regular basis. Get more nurses on the ward, and let the managers look after them, so that they can look after us. It's not our problem when we are ill, we need to be taken care of. Senior managers need to be include responsibility to everyday patients, along with their statistics and national targets.

At what point do you all get together and back this failing system and aim your anger at the cause, Conservative Government !, legalised demolision of a fine health service. you will all realise when it gets wrapped up and have to either travel or go private. The government dont want people to stay alive after retirement it costs to care for them, they dont want middle class, thats why the rich always vote for them and the unemployed are better off than they have ever been. so they vote for them. Happy days if your an idle layabout or your wealthy. In the middle you will never earn enough to move up the ladder, only fall in layabout status where again they will be kept in parliament. Andy you have a very limited understanding of he issues here so I suggest you get back to your Unison duties ad soon as possible and leave the analysis to those with the intellectual capacity to discuss sensibly.

If you have knowledge of something that Julie Hilling has 'overclaimed' for, please report it so that it can be investigated.

As for spouting on about something she knows nothing about etc, how would you know anything about what is actually going on considering, according to you, you left the country many years ago? If you disagree with Ms Hilling your unnecessarily aggressive and wholly ignorant attitude lend no weight to your argument, whatever it is.

We all know your a Raging Tory, where anyone from another Political Party can't make comments. Like I have told you before, go on My views and post yours. You would be totally Ignored or told to go. No!, Bad Unelected Government, dismantling the NHS. This Propoganda about overspending is Rubbish. Cameron is withdrawing funds every year In NHS Trusts around the UK. Just like he did with the Councils, then blamed them when things went pear shaped. How can you support these Millionaires, they have Private Health Care. Any accountant/economist will tell you, if a company/organisation acts suboptimally, this is the first stages to its collapse.

Businesses do not fail because of some single, corrupt act, it is caused through a multitude of small, little things. Staff stop performing the basics, people don't check things correctly, a manager will take a short cut, a director will not challenge correctly, because he will fear losing his bonus.

How many senior managers hide behind the pathetic dribble that is offered by corporate consultants? Short termism folks...every major organisation is guilty as charged.

The seeds to this situation were sown along time ago, when banks realised that by selling debt to companies rather than companies using their own equity to finance projects, the gravy train changed from a trickle to flow.

The big corporate accounting firms kept advising, sell yer shares, get some debt, reduce your cost of capital.

Directors then started to understand that big gains, better tax positions could soon be achieved.

Why, if I came up to you tomorrow and said, I'll save you £50k by moving your money offshore, would you take it?

Greed my friends, it gets in your blood, its a drug, I need my BMW, I need my suntan, I need my designer clothes...well do you?

If it means that your hospital is falling apart, your children don't have a proper education, your grandma sleeps in soiled knickers. Your neighbour has to wait 2 hours for an ambulance, your streets are filthy, your town is full of drunks, takeaways, your museum has nothing to exhibit, your buses are run by a group of people who live over 3000 miles away?

You are all guilty of it, you want your high paid pensions, you want top services, you want decency, yet you vote for a corrupt group of people, who only care about their expenses, their £40k pension/month and who they can wine & dine.

Well, when a hospital borrows £2m+ to finance a car park, you know what they care about and it isn't people.

Both you and MP Julie Hilling are overlooking the seemingly obvious here, who was in charge when Bolton Hospital started to get itself in this mess? Why yes it was the fat controller (Labour) and the bigot Brown (Labour) I ain't no torry but you seem to overlook the blindingly obvious in your bashing the current bunch of crooks in charge.
The reality is we should all be voting for local people who represent them in all elections, not 'branded label' politicians for whom following the party line is more important than the voters.
If you don't believe this then why will they not allow a vote on Europe?

Perhaps being sick comes with the job?
Lets face it working with ill people can't be healthy! Humans have a habit of sharing our germs.
Along with the stress of losing jobs etc what else could be expected?
One way of curing staff sickness in hospitals is don't have ill people filling up hospital beds, but that would sort of defeat the object wouldn't it.

its simple there are too many organ grinders taking all the money to feed themselves and not enough monkeys willing or able to do the job of actually physically looking after others . To many people up at the top getting payed too much to tell people who are not payed enough how it should be done, but are not willing to roll there sleeves up and get stuck in ......

The NHS has a policy of never sacking anyone unless for gross missconduct, incompetence is therefore excusable. It offers extremely generous sickness terms, not only do many staff view 2 weeks off a year on full pay as a holiday extension, many senior staff can enjoy 6 months sick leave on full salary while accruing holidays even though they are not working. Its amazing how many return to work just as their full sick pay is about to be reduced, then they plan how they will take the 4 weeks holiday they are then due. As for incompetence many departments are over staffed during the day, both with administrators and nurses. Not long ago the PCT invested £1 million in new town centre accommodation which 4 years later is empty, not required. Business plans are approved which do not hold up to scutiny, while the departing C.Executive was given a £300,000 golden goodby present for leaving 6 months early. 80% of the entire local NHS budget goes on salaries, if all staff earning above £25,000 ( virtually all of them) are forced to take a 10% reduction in pay you will save £40 million at a stroke and all financial pressures are removed. Equally it would help to reduce the gulf between over payed public employees and the private sector. In a nutshell the NHS has been a gravy train for years, courtesy of the incompetent labour party, who as a side issue welcomed 5 million immigrants to our country inside a decade which is directly responsible for the intollerable demand now placed on our services, such as the NHS. lets not forget individual unhealthy lifestyles, predominantly responsible for alcohol fuelled injuries, heart disease, diabetes, drug use, obesity, etc, etc, You can maybe estimate the majority of patients treated in our hospital suffer self induced health issues. All the socialists reading this blog scream about there god given right to have everything they require made available to them for free. They suddenly go quiet if they had to work for the same or explain where exactly our government will find the money to pay for what they ask. We are broke, the country is utterly skint, the labour party made sure of that last time out

Genesis22, you may want to get you facts correct, everyone working in the NHS is on the same terms and conditions, every accrues a sickness entitlement which after five years is 6 month ful pay and 6 months half pay, not just senior managers.

The Cheif executive of the PCT was made redundant and the pay off is no mre than his entitlement as part of the pension plan everyone in the NHS is at liberty to join.

I work in private sector and I dont know where you think the gulf between the public and private sector is, but I get unlimited sickness at full pay, private health plan, a pensions that would make an MP green with envy and a car.

People are alway quick to say how good the public sector have it, especailly if they dont have good terms and conditions. It is typical response. A good example of this is as follows "An Americian walks down the street and see a man in a brand new Rolls Royce, he thinks Gee that guy has done well I want to be like him. A Boltonnian is walking down street and see a man in a new Rolls Royce and thinks why has he got that, he a cheat and a thief lets take it off him"

No one has picked up on the issue of low numbers of staff on wards, once the 500 jobs cuts into play all wards will only have one member of staff at night, what happens when tow patient have a heart attack at night? or two patients need the toilet at same time. We are going back in time here, this is what should be being talked about here, not how much so and so gets more than me.

Its you health service, your health that will be put at risk if the cuts go ahead. Believe me if they can get rid of 500 staff A&E will be sure to go.
