Knife gang rob four people in one night

AN armed gang is believed to be responsible for a one-night crime spree in Horwich.

The group of about six men are thought to have carried out three armed robberies in and around Victoria Road and Pennine Road in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Police say armed street robberies are rare in Horwich — there were only 10 during the whole of last year.

Now there have been three on the first day of 2013, involving four victims, and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. In each case, the gang engaged their victims in conversation by asking for a cigarette before threatening them with knives and robbing them.

The first incident happened between 2.15am and 2.30am, when a group of five or six men threatened three teenagers with a knife and stole a 14-yearold’s wallet.

A short time later, between 3.15am and 4am, five men threatened two 18- year-olds with a knife and took a mobile phone and cash.

It happened in Victoria Road, near the junction with Stocks Park Drive.

Then four men approached a 15-year-old at the junction of Victoria Road and Chorley New Road between 4am and 4.10am and stole a bag and coat.

The robbers are white, aged 18 to 22, and were wearing dark clothes with their hoods up. They spoke with local accents.

PCSO Steve Best said: “This type of personal robbery is very rare in Horwich, with only 10 reported in the whole of 2012.

“They asked the victims for a cigarette and these decent people said yes and suffered as a consequence.

“This was not a happy way to start the New Year for them. It could be that the offenders are from another area of Bolton and had been to a party and brought their crime with them.

“We are sure people will be talking about this and urge anyone with any information to contact us.”

In another incident, two men approached a woman in Rock Street, Horwich, between 2.10pm and 2.20pm on New Year’s Eve, and stole a mobile phone before running off.

Police are investigating whether this attack is linked to the other robberies.

Why would they be from another area, I had a mate jumped by three scroats near bottom of Victoria rd and they lived in Dale St, scoure Craven Court and Claypool Flats, Get out on the beat more instead of sitting in warm stations and see whats going on, and dont come back with short on resources, get rid of the BMW X5s, Volvo,s and get 3 times the amount of Fiesta,s, get Beat cops in and lose the paper work. not hard to work out whats wrong, make sentences start from the minute they are picked up. leave laces and belts with the inmates. stop pussying round thugs and deadlegs with human rights, they are not human

It boggles my mind,first of all we have 14& 15 year olds wandering around between 2&5am,what are their parents thinking?Seondly we have 6 knife weilding thugs attacking these children(who should be in bed)Thirdly all this goes on and nobody seems to notice.Fourthly(is that a word?)where the hell are the police?One robbery would be random two would strongly suggest some thing is not quite right,three should pique their interest.Six armed thugs attacking children,maybe we should go out and investigate this,it shouldn't be hard to spot a mob like this in little old Horwich.Uh uh it's 5am, end of shift.

On topic - You would expect that during the holiday season extra police would be out and about, in Horwich just the extra one police officer would make a huge difference as it is such a small township.

It beats the proverbial out of me how these attacks are not being caught on camera, now in Horwich you would expect that just one man watching cctv would suffice, maybe I am wrong. But in a day and age were we do have the ability to use technology such as cctv and I'm sure they have many of them in Horwich, why the technology is not being used correctly.

As for children age between 14 and 15 being out on the street at that time I can only assume that either they had been up to no-good, in which case I would suggest it serves them right, or in fairness to them they had been at work or going to work, but I hardly see that is what they had been doing because of the legalities of working practices and children. OR they had been running errands for their parents, in which case then the parents of these kids have seriously failed them.

As for the muggers, I don't know what to suggest as obviously these people will only get either a very light custodial sentence, or there crimes will be facilitated with a simple fine, caution and/or community service.

BTW does anyone have the stats on crimes committed by people serving out their community service, at a place where community service is being served? I bet that would be a fine belly laugh!

I agree with the kids wandering comment but New Year's Eve is chaos everywhere. Check the gmp bolton west Facebook site. 231 incidents in a ten hour period on New Year's Eve, the police cannot be everywhere.

CCTV only covers the horwich town centre areas, lee lane and winter hey lane, not residential streets.

Couldn't agree more! If it was racism the other way round it would be national press.

If you moved to/parents moved to America you and didn't like Americans so decided to attack them with hammers they wouldn't mess about.

The fifleen year old was at a friends family party and was supposed to be staying over but had been let down by his friend and had to make his way home. Hence being out on his own at that time of night. I think people should be more concerned about the animals who are doing these attacks and where their parents have gone wrong.
