Snow latest: Horwich and Rivington hit hardest. Bolton bracing itself.

People are set to wake up to snow in Bolton as falls begin, bringing a taste of winter to large areas of the borough over the next 48 hours.

Snow began in the north west of Scotland during Saturday evening and moved to other areas north of the border during the night. It began to snow in parts of Bolton around 4pm today.

Rivington and Horwich have seen heavy snowfall. You can tell us of other snowfall areas in the comments below.

Laura Caldwell, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "The snow was expected to move into northern England and as far south as the Midlands during the day."

More falls are expected on Monday. Most of the areas will see between 2cm and 5cm settle while some will see up to 10cm.

The Met Office has a level two weather warning in place until Tuesday covering the whole of England, alerting residents to ice, snow and bitter temperatures.

It said: "This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services."

The cold weather is expected to linger for the rest of the week with the possibility of more snow flurries.

At the sight of snow everyone goes into panic it wouldn't be so if we all had more faith in our local authorities to be more prepared, sadly evidence speaks volumes the grit bin at the bottom of the road albeit a steep incline one of many is empty. They've had months to prepare for snowfall and still its the same old same old .......

Stop moaning and enjoy the snow. Take the dog out or have some fun with the kids lets face it they don't get much fun in this day and age. I think we forget that when we were kids the sight of snow first thing in the morning, well lets just say TRY to remember.

I hope it snows so more. so Stop you're whining, no matter what the weather it's either to hot or to cold, the suns to bright or to much cloud, it's to windy or not enough breeze, it's raining to much or we need more rain before we get a hose pipe ban. Let us have some snow even for one day a year. Play outside, or stay in and see other people enjoy themselves. Stop being miserable and enjoy life. I've been prepared for snow for years and not had to use my shovel hardly or put grit down which I bought just one yes ONE tub of grit. Stop panic buying at the sight of one flake of snow. I hate not being able to buy one small loaf of bread or a small carton of milk because everyone has bought 10 lots of each because they have been told snow is on the way. How would you cope if you had to go and live somewhere where it does snow? Yes this country needs to look at how they carry on with day to day things instead of crying. Now why don't a reporter go to Mornington road to find out why fire engines are there and why there are drilling at this time on night. Yes I did rant but its my view.

I can see Rivington pike from my bedroom window and it looks really nice with the snow, however there isn't as much up there as this report suggests. I'm always amused by all the comments when we get this kind of weather but lets look at it sensibly - It's winter and sometimes we get snow - we just have to deal with it the best we can folks!
