MEP’s warning on Cameron’s speech

DAVID Cameron will “play Russian roulette” with the Bolton economy when he makes a speech on EU membership tomorrow, according to a borough MEP.

The prime minister will deliver a long-delayed address on “the future of the EU and the UK’s relationship with it” in The Netherlands tomorrow.

Liberal Democrat Chris Davies, pictured, who has represented Bolton in the European Parliament since 1999, warned that the prime minister will “not have the North West’s best interests at heart” when he makes his speech.

Mr Davies said: “David Cameron and his backbenchers are ignoring the impact that their dithering is having on investment in manufacturing. Large international companies will not build new factories, distribution centres and warehouses that the economy of the North desperately needs.”

He said: “The UK can’t tackle our major environmental challenges on our own, we can’t solve the energy crisis and we won’t get good trading terms from other major trading blocs like the USA, India or China.

“We’re better off working with the other 26 EU members to get everyone to do their bit to solve these problems.”

We can leave the EU but stay in the EEA (European Economic Area) we have to contribute a token sum the EU budget but we get to keep the trade deals and don't have to implement any of the non-economic legislation that comes from the European Commission This is the relationship Norway and Switzerland have in Europe and they have thrived over the recent decades.

Quite correct and I totally agree. But it would also avoid having to implement EU laws, not necessarily economicly-based ones, that are detrimental to Britain, or are the whim of Germany, whose leader believes she has a right to dictate to the rest of us. The last time that country had such a leader, we had a war, and we do not want another German telling us all what to do.
