Give us a referendum on EU says Tory MEP
11:00am Saturday 19th January 2013 in Local
A BOLTON Euro MP has called for a “fundamental reform” of the European Union and said there should be a referendum on Britain’s future in it.
Speaking ahead of the prime minister’s speech on Europe today, North West Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim called for what he described as the “3Rs” to be urgently examined.
He said the 3Rs included a review of the EU, reform, and a referendum. He said: “Before any referendum is held, the British people need to be fully informed and aware of exactly what they will be voting for and just how it will affect our lives.”
He said: “The European Union is changing and the UK’s relationship with the EU needs to change. I fully support David Cameron when he says that he wants a fresh settlement with Europe but our government needs to be very specific about the review and reform agenda before any referendum.”
