Two injured in sledging incidents

AN 18-year old was treated for possible spinal injuries and a man in his 20s suffered a broken leg in two sledging incidents today, Saturday.

At 12.58pm an ambulance, an air ambulance and Bolton Mountain Rescue Team were scrambled to playing fields at Eagley Brook.

They found an 18 year old man had been sledging down a “fairly steep” hill near to the banks of Eagley Brook, and had injured himself after falling off the sledge.

Due to the nature of the incident he was treated for possible spinal injuries and given painkilling gas before being taken by ambulance to the Royal Bolton Hospital.

At the same time reports were received of a second sledging incident and the mountain rescue team and air ambulance were called to Rivington.

They discovered a man in his mid-20s had suffered a broken leg on the banks of Yarrow reservoir and he was taken to hospital.

Its inevitable there are injuries when so many people take to their sledges when the snow arrives.
I was in Rivington this afternoon where there were thousands of people having a great time in the snow and quite surprised only two people appear to have been injured.

I sledged the same hill at Eagley when I was in my teens...the youth of today just have no idea...we used to sledge from the very top, across the access road(no traffic, closed many years before), across the valley floor and almost to the river...scared me to death but never once injured ourselves!!!!

My nephew in USA has just broken his leg and his parents have been left with a bill for over £50k (no insurance). Makes you thankful for our NHS doesn't it?
