Only one wheel on Anne's wheelie bin... and the refuse collectors won't empty it

Only one wheel on Anne's wheelie bin... and the refuse collectors won't empty it Only one wheel on Anne's wheelie bin... and the refuse collectors won't empty it

THINGS certainly did not run smoothly for pensioner Anne Hobson when one of the wheels fell off her grey bin as she was putting it out for collection.

The 71-year-old just about managed to haul the heavy bin 50ft to the end of her driveway, only for waste collectors to refused to empty it — because of the missing wheel.

Now, mother-of-three Mrs Hobson, of Larkhill, Farnworth, has branded the binmen “lazy” and will have to wait until Friday before she receives a replacement.

In the meantime she says she has no idea where she will store the excess waste she will accumulate.

She said: “I was putting out the grey bin but, one of the wheels dropped off. With the other wheel still attached, I managed to drag the bin to the end of my long driveway.

“But later on, I discovered it hadn’t been emptied.”

She said: “I can drag the bin 50ft to the end of my driveway, but able-bodied men can’t take it from the kerbside and have it emptied into the wagon just a few feet away.

“They’re just lazy and it seems they want the job done for them.”

She is also unhappy that a new grey bin won’t be delivered until Friday to coincide with the next collection day. I’ve nowhere now to put rubbish and excess waste. And I’m annoyed that I can’t get a new bin until the end of the week.”

Her son, Andrew added: “It’s absolutely ridiculous that a 71-year-old woman can drag a bin with one wheel to the end of her long driveway when 6ft tall, 15-stone binmen can’t empty it.

“And I’m also upset that she won’t get another bin earlier. It seems to be all about what suits them.”

A Bolton Council spokeswoman said: “The bin was not emptied due to the missing wheel.

“It will be replaced free of charge next Friday, the delivery day for this area, and any excess waste will also be removed next Friday.”

God help you when you are elderly or disabled with these Bolton Binmen. They ARE lazy, they IGNORE the yellow stickers that are put on for the disabled.
Remember the days when binmen used to lift bins up on their backs, and tip into the wagon, That WAS hard work, not like how easy these pampered binmen have it!!

Poor love, this wouldn't have happened when back when our Binmen use to be 'MEN' and could hoist them old galvinised bins sometimes two at a time onto their backs and carry them to the van, then bring them back and put them back in your backyard with a smile on their face. No now they're much to soft, and have to follow H&S, granted the bins are bigger but come on Men stand up and show some common decency its not all about money at the end of the day.

If one of those binmen wrecks their back pulling that bin around and can't work for 6 weeks, do you think Mrs Hobson will be interested in paying his loss of earnings? Nah.. didn't think so. Mrs Hobson needs to stop being a victim.

We are all victims of the binmen in one way or another. Missed collections, can't go out because of the weather, didn't see the disabled sticker, bins weren't put out according to them. It is about time the binmen stopped being victims. So you may put your back out or not. The Council will pay your wages on full pay for 6 months, then help you ease back in to work by working part time for so many months.
Mrs Hobson, stick by your guns. You are the victim of the binmen's lack of any compassion or even common sense.

I can remember when binmen were men.
Slung the bin over their back carried it to the wagon and emptied it - no need to worry about which day they came as they came onto your property to get it.

My Grandma could do the job these days,

they dont need to pull their back out, is that not what bolton council use our taxes for to buy state of the art trucks so that the pampered employees dont have to do any lifting. They just cant get round their quick enough for an early finish.

Not a moaning old cow at all. Look at the facts you ignorant C!?t . The council tell you not to leave out your bin due to theft and fire hazard. Don't pile rubbish at side of bin ,it won't be moved, yet when it suits them its okay to leave bin out and pile waste at side for a week.
All she is asking for is a bit of common sense . How will the bin be moved next Friday? Is it going to mend itself?

Er... the point is that we *don't* pay them to pull loaded bins that have a wheel missing. If this was an ongoing situation then she might have a point, but when they've asked her to just miss a week before the new bin arrives at the end of the week, then why's she moaning so much? Victim complex, that's what. I'm in a family of 4 and since we use all the recycling bins, we often don't put out our grey bin because there's very little in it. How mich rubbish is this woman really going to produce in a week?

Given the moaning tone of the story, if this had been going on for several weeks I feel sure that the story or Mrs Hobson would have made this perfectly clear. As it is, the story strongly suggests that this has only happened once and she has a replacement bin coming at the end of the week. This really wasn't even much to complain about, least of all end up in the paper moaning about it.

Even without wheels the binmen don't even have to lift it. They only need to slide it along the ground (2 man job) then lever it onto the bin lorry which then would lift/empty the bin for them.

and whilst I'm at it, week in... week out our bins are never where they were placed originally - instead they are half way down the bloody road. Is it that hard to do a job properly?

People! people! people! "those lazy binmen" you're all complaining about remove between 1500-2000 wheelie bins, containing 12-15 Tonnes of refuse every day Monday to Friday (this tonnage is due to increase drastically when the council returns to fortnightly collections this coming May). They walk on average 11 miles during the course of working a day and do this in all weathers (unless the conditions are hazardous to public safety as was the case recently when heavy snow caused the service to be suspended for three days) In the past few years "Those lazy binmen" have lost their productivity bonus and had their job down graded, so that they're now paid approx £7000 below the national average wage. So please think again! The binmen can be described in lots of ways but "lazy" isn't one of them :-)

One of my neighbours had a recovery truck outside his house, my car has been parked outside my house for last 6 years without issue. The binman was banging hell out of my door at 7am asking me to move my car. Asked him why and he pointed to the recovery truck saying he couldnt get through. I had serious problems that morning and said that he should approach my neighbour instead, he then yelled at me that he wouldnt empty my bin, I gave him a mouthful back and thought that was the end of it. Not so, later that same night I got a takeaway sent to my house that I had not ordered, so not only did he not empty my bin that week, possibly sent takeaway to me but they missed the following week too. The binmen are pampered now, if the lids open by more than 2 inches to leave it, if it feels heavy leave it, needless to say I am not surprised at Mrs Hobson's situation, hope the binmen's collections trouble them in the same way!

I have phoned the council and the 'gentleman' (paraphrase 3) I get through to usually tells me that he doesn't know why. I have fronted the bin 'men' (parahrrase 4) about this many times and they point to the parked car and say that's why they won't empty the bin I have ended up taking Christmas waste to the tip in my car even though I pay council tax just like the 'lady' (paraphrase 5) in this 'story'(paraphrase 6). I long for the old days when binmen were men and took pride in theier jobs but those days are gone, we live in a society where most people whether they are council employees or not are look ing for a quick compensation claim. It's sad but it's the way it is and it will just get worse. I really can't believe that people actually took the time to write on here that thier bin wasn't put back where it was left and they had to walk a few yards extra to fetch it in. Is this not what we pay our council tax for? When you phone the call centre you are told "you have to wait a week ,that's the system". Yet when the press become involved and there's a chance a of a bit of adverse publicity suddenly the system can be altered and the new bin arrives and the broken bin and contents are removed within 4 hours.

OMG why is this even NEWS!!
And I can't believe how many people just wanted to use this story to slag off the binmen! Personally I wouldn't do their job for a gold pig.
I do agree though that they could have still emptied the bin with one wheel but the fact this lady has to wait for a new bin and will miss a collection can't be that much of a problem, surely it wouldn't be that full anyway. Mother of 3 but surely these people are adults now?? Do they live at home??
We sometimes don't put ours out because it's not even half full. We tend to recycle most rubbish so there is very little actually goes in my grey bin.

Why did this woman ring the BN news desk with this stupid 'Non-story'?. But more importantly why did the paper think it was worth devoting column inches and sending out a photographer who then told her to 'Frown now' before he took her pic.

I can only assume the reason the BN gave this 'Wheel falls off bin' story any credence is because the owners have a certain political bias, much the same as the rest of the media.

Billy mate no one believes your BS not even you :-) and as for your alter ego "fatmorrisout" your tedious diatribe is not even worthy of a reponse.
That's why you keep replying . Hook line, and sinker. Adios mr Morris I'm off to my holiday home in Florida for half term with my family, whilst you stay here and luck the councils arse.
billy, billy, silly billy enjoy your holiday in fantasy land, I hope you and your imaginary family have a really great time and forget all about all your imagined problems with your imagined nemesis Cllr Morris. lets hope you're leaving your imagined company in good hands. can I suggest willy wonka, yes I know he only has experience of working in a chocolate factory, however chocolate and thebullshit that you produce could on cursory inspection be easily mistaken (same colour, but a much different smell) and just so you know I'd rather go to Caernarfon with my mate Dave (who by the way will kick your sad sorryarse if he ever finds out who you are) than go to your Micky Mouse fantasy home. so in conclusion cachau bent haliwr ti'n llawn :-)
Willy wonker produces chocolate like you produce bullsh*t. By the truck load. Watch out bill he has a mate called dave who's a lean mean bullshitting machine. And I love how google translate comes into the equation. You clever boy.

By the way we aren't all peadophiles who own miky mouse holiday homes like you Dennis.

Yours truly, the truth.

People! people!

Binmen refused to remove my bin when i asked why they said on account of the body in there. They made me remove it.... can you believe it! So I put said body into the boot of car on my way to Rivington I was stopped by the police, the officer asked me "do you know why I have stopped you". I thought it better to own up so I replied is it the body in my boot, he laughed and said no your front left headlight needs replacing. I apologised and went on my way! So beware of job titles ending in "men" they are all useless!!!
