Laptop blown up in Manchester town centre following bomb alert

Bomb disposal experts were called to Manchester city centre today after a suspect package was found.
Police went to New York Street near to the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly hotel at 7.35am today.
The package turned out to be a laptop and cables. It had prompted officers to cordon off a 100m section of the city.
A controlled explosion was carried out put the package was safe.
Police said public safety was their priority.

People who say it was a waste of money should volunteer to go and deal with suspicious packages themselves rather than 'waste' money.
