HMV to close Bolton store
Bolton’s HMV store will shut despite administrators announcing it was safe from closure just two weeks ago.
The shop's 10 staff on Exchange Street are now under threat and they join around 1,500 other HMV workers facing redundancy in other branches.
The administrators axed 66 branches in a first wave of closures but there has been a second announcement of 37 closures. It will lead to another 464 job losses.
Manchester city centre’s iconic 90 Market Street store has already been earmarked for closure although the nearby Arndale Centre store is staying open.
Other smaller shops in Rochdale, Ashton, Wigan and Blackburn are also to close as part of the recovery plans for the music, DVD and games chain. The Trafford Centre site remains open.
Administrators at accountancy firm Deloitte announced the news today. All shops which will continue to trade in the meantime. However, it is expected that closures will take place over the next two months. HMV currently operates from 220 UK branches.
It opened a lot of smaller branches in the 2000s but was traditionally based only in large towns and city centres. The closures will return HMV to a smaller chain reflecting its size during its 1980s heydays.
Other north-west shops to close include Warrington, St Helen’s and Birkenhead. Other big cities are affected as well as Manchester, with closures in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and London.

I'm dreading coming back down to Bolton again. I went last weekend and had to walk through towards the train station. It was the most depressing thing I think I've ever seen.
I had no idea Dixons had closed either...

Now shush, our Rioja Shiraz is on X-Factor singin a bit of Mariah - how the talentless waste of space with the IQ of a sausage hasn't been snapped up by a talent scout by now, I'll never know. Anyway, she's taken a night off from breeding and bitterness to emulate her role-model.

What a pathetic individual.
I just hope that this now opens his eyes open to what is happening to his " beloved" town centre - although I get the feeling ot won't!
COUNCILLORS OF ALL PARTIES GET YOR ACT TOGETHER BEFORE THE TOWN CENTRE BECOMES A RELIC OF PAST SUCCESS - WHAT YOU HAVE ALL DONE TO THIS TOWN CENTRE IS A COMPLETE DISGRACE!

Cliff Morris can barely walk he is that over-weigh, he shuffles through the corridors of our town hall like a lumbering walrus across rocks. He's old and decrepit - how can this waste of blood and guts EVER bring Bolton into the modern era? He has no concept of today's world and how it is changing and so is powerless to halt Bolton's slide into destitution - he is simply not equipped intellectually to stop the ship sinking. He's Atari in a Playstation world, he is not capable of hatching ideas, he is not capable of grasping concepts and their implications and possibilities. He will however be able to recite the Pasty Shoppe price list from memory. Morris is the problem and he must be removed and replaced with someone with the vision to re-generate Bolton and the drive to bang his (or her!) fist on the table instead of using fat fingers to grasp their pasty money.
