Rubbish build up ‘due to weather’

TRANSPORT bosses say litter problems at railway stations have been due to the “recent cold weather”.

Cllr David Wilkinson, a member of Westhoughton Town Council, contacted Transport for Greater Manchester after finding bins overflowing at Westhoughton Railway Station, off Church Street, in February.

He also found there was no bag in one bin and thought there should be additional bins to prevent the problems.

Friends of Westhoughton Station was formed last year to maintain the station. The volunteers give up their time to spruce it up and clear litter.

Transport for Greater Manchester the councillor the level of cleanliness would be followed up. ISS Facility Services, which cleans Northern Rail’s stations, was impacted due to the bad weather last month, which led to the build up of rubbish.
