Comic Relief raised a record £75m yesterday.

Comedian Peter Kay had travelled on a sofa from Belfast to London, making his grand entrance in the studio during the broadcast.

Pop stars One Direction performed the official Comic Relief single, a cover version of Blondie's One Way or Another, band member Louis Tomlinson having dyed his hair red for the occasion.

Ricky Gervais resurrected the character of David Brent, from The Office, for the night of entertainment, hosted by a string of celebrities including Davina McCall and Comic Relief co-founder Lenny Henry.

People across Bolton got into the spirit of the day with a range of events.

Tots at Andrew Lane Nursery in Sharples got into the fundraising spirit with a fun day.

Staff and children decorated cakes and youngsters could even throw custard pies at their teachers.

Balloons were also released with the aim to see how far they would travel.

It has been reported that one balloon went as far as Hampshire.
