ABOUT 4,000 young people in Bolton could be affected by proposed changes to housing benefits.
Prime Minister David Cameron wants to end housing benefit for the under-25s.
Leader of the council, Cllr Cliff Morris, told councillors at a recent meeting that about 4,000 under-25s in Bolton are currently in receipt of housing benefit.
He said: “I hope it will never become legislation.
“Not all under-25s have a home to return to, not all families can accommodate the under-25s.
“Some under-25s move for employment reasons to get jobs, some have children. Some of these young people did work, so what does Cameron want them to do?”
He said that it was irresponsible to make “general sweeping statements” about young people.
