FAST food giant McDonald’s was criticised by town councillors for its “unnecessary” attempt to build a bigger ‘M’ sign at its Westhoughton store.
The iconic yellow letter, used by the US burger chain as its logo, would be extended from six metres tall to eight metres tall at the outlet in Pavilion Square, under the restaurant’s plans.
But town councillors have recommended Bolton Council throw out the plans.
Cllr David Chadwick, leader of Westhoughton Town Council, said: “It simply does not need to be any bigger.
“I can picture it now and it is not as though you have to peer over a hedge to see it.”
