YOUNGSTERS in Horwich are being asked to volunteer to help the town commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One.
The Horwich branch of the Royal British Legion is working with Horwich Town Council to plan the commemoration events.
The names of 450 Horwich men who lost their lives in the conflict will be read out at a service in the memorial garden in Lever Park Avenue on Sunday, at 12.30pm.
Horwich residents are being asked to volunteer to help plant a cross for each of the dead as the names are read out.
Later in the evening, people are invited to a ‘poppy party’ at the Horwich RMI club in Ramsbottom Road, where local comedian Terry Cotta will be performing.
The evening starts at 7.30pm and admission is £5, with profits going to the Horwich poppy Appeal.
