BRITAIN must stop being “deeply elitist” by improving state schools so they can rival fee-paying ones, according to a Bolton Euro MP.
Deputy UKIP leader Paul Nuttall said it is imperative that the dominance of privately educated people in getting Britain’s top jobs must change.
His comments follow a report from the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission, which analysed the backgrounds of 4,000 people.
It found that seven out of 10 senior judges, two-thirds of senior armed forces officers and more than half of senior diplomats were privately educated.
Mr Nuttall said: “This report shows Britain is a deeply elitist country and that must change. It harks back to a much earlier age but life has moved on and mobility demands more.”
