MORE than 1,000 homes in Radcliffe and Bradley Fold were left without electricity over the weekend after a “high voltage fault” with an underground cable.
A total of 1,100 customers in the Radcliffe Moor Road and Fold Lane areas were affected by the power cut, which occurred on Saturday at about 6pm.
Some residents reported hearing an explosion at the same time the electricity cut out.
Fold Lane was temporarily closed while emergency works to reinstate damaged underground cables were carried out, causing some traffic delays through Radcliffe, Bradley Fold and Little Lever.
A spokesman for Electricity North West said: “An underground cable fault caused the loss of power to 1,100 customers in Radcliffe on Saturday at 6pm.
“Engineers restored power to 843 customers within three minutes and the remaining 257 customers at 7.24pm. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Electricity North West engineers were back at the site yesterday to finish work on the road.
