IF you know a young person who has the right skills and talent for your work place it’s time to register your interest for Takeover Day 2012.

Each year Takeover Day, gives young people from all backgrounds and abilities the chance to work with adults for the day and be involved in decision-making, while adults, schools and organisations can gain a fresh perspective on what they do.

Takeover Day 2012 is on November 23 when Wigan Council’s Voice and Engagement Team workers are leading the event with the help of youth councils.

Team member Angela Wood said: “We’re looking for both young people and organisations to take part. If you are young person who is eager to get involved and wants experience in the workplace then this event is for you.

“Similarly, if you or your organisation could offer a young person the chance to shadow you for a day and learn some useful lessons in the world of work then we want to hear from you.

“This national event is designed to break down barriers between generations and encourage children's active involvement in their communities. We want the whole borough to get behind this exciting initiative.”

Takeover Day is led by the Children's Commissioner for England Maggie Atkinson, who this year has asked youth councils across the country to co-ordinate the event in their areas.

Councillor Sue Loudon, Wigan Council cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This is promises to be a great event and young and older people should support it.

“It a pleasure to be accompanied by a young person who usually ask the very basic common sense questions that we as adults have forgotten to ask."
