CHILDREN from Accrington Academy have met with the Chief Crown Prosecutor to discuss cyber bullying and how it is policed.

The special youth panel event was organised as part of Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2012 and gave pupils the chance to shadow jobs, get involved in decision-making and offer their opinions on key issues.

The event, which involved 16 children from across the North West, also coincided with Anti-Bullying Week. Mason Hunt, from Accrington Academy, said: “We think it was a very successful day. We learnt not only about cyber bullying but how common it is, as there were people in the room who had been affected directly by it.

“We now know more about what to do and where to go.

“We shall take back all we have learnt today to everyone at school.”

Nazir Afzal, chief crown prosecutor for the North West, said: “The Takeover Day is an ideal opportunity for us to involve young people in what we do and to give them an insight into the work of the CPS and our decision-making. ”
