PUPILS at Lowton CE High School spent a day learning more about life and the universe.

Enrichment Days at the school are held three times a year and are always a big hit with staff and students alike.

More than 1,000 students, teachers, volunteer helpers and guests explored life beyond the textbooks by taking part in activities and debates during an Enrichment Day.

Some grabbed litter pickers to make a clean-sweep of the school grounds while others tended gardens, recycled old toys and designed their own bags for life.

Guest speakers from various faith and community groups across Leigh, Lowton and Atherton, including representatives from Christian and Muslim groups, were welcomed and a careers fair was held in the sports hall.

Head teacher John Shanahan said: “We believe in giving our young people a full and well-rounded education that goes far beyond the classroom.”
