Famous Accrington clock could be restored

CAMPAIGNERS hoping to restore a town centre clock are to meet this month to discuss options.

For several years people have campaigned for the Accrington Arndale Centre Clock to be restored to its former glory.

Andy Plant’s ‘World Clock’, erected in 1987, it was dismantled in 2004 after it stopped working.

A meeting is now set to take place to discuss the issues involved in restoring the clock at Oswaldtwistle’s Civic Arts Centre. The timepiece, which is currently in storage, would open up every hour with Father Time on a bicycle and mythical characters such as goblins playing Rock Around the Clock on musical instruments.

The meeting is on January 21 at 5.30pm at the Union Road centre.
