DARWEN Town Council’s new mascot, in the shape of Darwen Tower, will be called ‘Darren’ after a competition run in the town’s schools.
The mascot, which cost £1,000 to make and was unveiled last year, has been produced to help promote the town and its events.
The council challenged children from all primary schools to come up with a name, and the winner was chosen by town council mayor Eileen Entwistle and announced at Tuesday’s meeting of the council.
Coun Entwistle said: “Darren was a very popular choice, so that is what the mascot will now be called.”
Prize money will now be split between the schools whose children suggested the name ‘Darren’.
