Coronation Street star's play being staged in Tyldesley
7:20am Monday 14th January 2013 in NW
TYLDESLEY Little Theatre will open 2013 with a challenging comedy drama called ‘Flamingoland’.
Being staged from January 29 - February 2 this a big-hearted, bitter sweet Northern comedy drama deals with family illness and bereavement. Despite the seriousness of the subject matter, this play will leave audiences with warm memories of a distinctive play, written by ex-Coronation Street actress Deborah McAndrew.
The story follows Joan Rogers, who first appeared at TLT in the 1960s as an ailing mother as she attempts to organise her life, just in time for her death. Practical and determined, she copes much better than other family members…that is, until skeletons start to appear out of various closets.
The four other performers in the play have all won acting awards through their work for TLT: Roma Etherington, Joyce Elder and Andrea Peters play concerned family members while, intriguingly, Paul Ward plays the friendly local pest control expert.
This will also be Ian Taylor’s second time in the director’s chair at the busy Lemon Street theatre this season and sees him return to another honest and realistic tale featuring beautifully written and strong roles for women – much in the same style as his previous successes with ‘Stepping Out’,‘Bazaar' & 'Rummage’, and the award winning ‘Day of Reckoning’ and ‘Ladies’ Day’.
