Birdwatchers set to flock to RSPB event at Pennington Flash, Leigh

NATURE lovers will gather this weekend at Pennington Flash at the start of the Big Garden Birdwatch organised by the RSPB.
To coincide with the survey Wigan Leisure and Cultural Trust will stage a special event at Pennington Flash, on Sunday, January 27.
Leigh Ornithological Society will hold the inaugural meeting of its Young Birders' Club, and will be taking young people on an number of guided walks around the bird hides and giving tips and information about simple bird identification.
This is part of the Leigh Society's campaign to get more young people interested in birding and nature, which is being bolstered by members visiting primary schools giving presentations.
A page on the website has been set up for youngsters to record their sightings seen on the walks or in their local area and they can also send photographs, written reports and even artwork for inclusion on the website to leighos.webmaster@gmail.com As well as the guided walks Sunday's event will feature a birds of prey demonstration, nestbox buildings and sale, willow weaving, pressing apples, receycling bird feeders and fat peckers.
L.O.S. spokesman Martyn Jones said: "We hope as many members as possible will attend and help generate interest in the Society as well as the new L.O.S. Young Birders' Club."
