Leigh girl Kim urges you to back Bebold and find a cure for alopecia

A FAMILY want Journal readers to join their quest to find a cure for alopecia – the hair loss condition that stems from an over-active immune system.
Fifteen-year-old Kim Slack, from Westleigh, has had alopecia for three-and-a-half years during which she and her family, mum and dad Sue and Steve and elder brother Joe, have enjoyed the support of the Bebold Alopecia Awareness group.
They have also had to suffer the frustration of the effects of alopecia and Kim's sometimes sudden and inexplicable hair loss.
Now they are determined to help her by encouraging people to support Bebold's quest for an e-petition calling for more research into this currently incurable condition.
Sue said: "Kim would just like to raise awareness about alopecia and perhaps people would realise that young sufferers are not just being stroppy teenagers, they are worried.
“As you can imagine, for a girl to constantly lose all the hair on her head, her eyebrows and eyelashes, coping day to day can be very difficult.
"We are trying to get national support for the e-petition through Twitter, Facebook and media coverage so all support will be gratefully received."
In this week's snowy climate supporters have been building snowladies wearing wigs, bandanas and posting pictures on facebook urging people to back their fight.
