TYLDESLEY Brass Band were on form on Sunday when they took a podium position at Preston Guild Hall, writes Tony Smith.

Competing with 33 other bands at the Brass at the Guild contest reigning champions Tyldesley couldn't quite match their 2011 and 2012 results when they topped their section.

They came third out of seven second section entrants after being drawn first to play in The Charter Theatre.

Conductor Rob Taylor led the Band in a rendition of Edward Gregson's ‘The Plantagenets’. This was a challenging but entertaining composition that tested every section of the Band not to mention its lead players.

John Taylor on cornet, Adam Taylor (horn) and Michael Jackson (euphonium) contributed much as did the splendid bass sound provided by Amanda Jones, Simon Rookyard, Stephen Gaskell, Shelby Bibby and Connor Gingell.

The event provided competing bands the opportunity to try out their test piece they will perform at the North West Regional Championships to be held on March 10 in Blackpool.
