THE danger of straying on building sites has been highlighted by a student to keep youngsters safe while construction work continues on a new free school site.
Preparations are underway on the former Hesketh Fletcher High School site in Hamilton Street, Atherton which is being developed and refurbished before it becomes home to Atherton Community School.
Students at Greater Manchester's first free school were invited to design posters raising awareness of on site dangers in a competition devised by ISG, the construction company working on the Hesketh Fletcher building.
Year seven student Harrison Langford took top honours with a winning design that was eye-catching and bold, Community School Principal Elizabeth Haddock said: “Harrison, like all the pupils, was helped by his peers and recognised how much better the final picture was through the kind, helpful and specific comments given by his fellow pupils.”
Andrew Swindells, ISG’s HSQ&E Advisor, added: “It’s extremely important for children to understand and learn about the dangers posed by construction sites.
“Harrison’s winning entry will be displayed on the hoardings around the new school site whilst the refurbishment is taking place for the entire community to see.”
Refurbishment at the Hamilton Street site will be completed in time for the new school year in September.
