Objections to Darwen restoration plans

PLANS to clean up the former ‘New Tip’ between Belmont and Darwen are to be considered by councillors next week.

Urban Springside Ltd wants to restore the site used by Kruger Tissues until 2007 to make paper products. Three local residents have objected to the proposed activity on grounds of traffic noise and disturbance.

They are particularly concerned that the restoration and decontamination of the tip at the former Springside Works, off Belmont Road, could involve up to 50 vehicles a day using an unadopted lane to the site.

The application will be considered by Blackburn with Darwen planning and highways committee when it meets next Thursday.

Officers have recommended approval of the proposals to excavate and remove paper pulp from the former tip.

They want strict conditions on the work to restore the site, used for industrial purposes for 300 years, to countryside and possible housing development.

This isn't really between Belmont and Darwen though, is it? It's between Belmont and Egerton. It's not a 'Darwen restoration plan'.
