Police want the public's help to identify a man whose body was discovered on waste ground on Westwood Park Drive, Wigan who may have connections with Leigh.

There were no suspicious circumstances discovered by police at the scene.

He had no form of identification on him and his fingerprints and DNA checks produced no results from any database in the UK.

He had a bus ticket in his pocket, dated 14 January 2013, timed 6.38am, from Leigh to Wigan.

At this time no-one fitting his description has been reported missing and his description has been circulated nationally via the missing person's bureau.

He is described as white with a olive-skinned complexion, short cut brown hair, about 5ft 8ft.

He was wearing blue Nike tracksuit bottoms, a blue padded gillet, a McKenzie hooded blue top with grey cuffs, light blue Fred Perry T shirt and dark blue / light blue adidas trainers.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare of Wigan CID said: “Since this man’s body was found we have carried out extensive enquiries both in Manchester and nationwide to establish this man’s identity.

“Unfortunately these have not yielded the results we were looking for so the next stage of our investigation is to go public with this.

“I find it inconceivable that no-one would miss a man who has not been seen alive for at least a month.

“From his appearance it may be that he is not a British national but possibly of eastern European origin.

“Our priority is to trace his family, inform of them of his death and return his body to them.”

Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 7962.
