Leigh rugby player is runner-up in north west apprentice awards

ENGINEERING technician Kieran Duffy has been placed runner-up in the North West Engineering Apprentice awards.

The 19-year-old, of Edmund Drive, Leigh, a former pupil of St Mary's Catholic High, Astley and Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Leigh, works for energy experts Cofely GDF Suez.

Based at Media City Salford Quays, Kieran is learning about ventilation and air conditioning and all aspects of engineering and electrical work He has got a double merit BTEC level three national diploma in construction and building services and is currently studying for a Btec level four higher diploma in construction and building services engineering.

"His short term goal is to become a fully qualified building service engineer and obtain a good standard of knowledge within the engineering industry and hopes to further his education by going to university to gain a degree in building services engineering," said his proud mum Michelle.

Kieran enjoys gym work, socialising and watching all sports and is a first team player at Leigh RUFC.
