Accrington cash raid detectives find stolen vehicle

DETECTIVES investigating a cash in transit robbery in Accrington have recovered the getaway vehicle.

The black Volkswagen Golf used by the armed and masked robbers, was discovered at the junction of Pollard Street and Belgrave Road near to the railway line.

Police said the car had been abandoned on Thursday evening, a short time after the raid on the Santander bank in Union Street, Accrington.

Forensic tests are still being carried out on the vehicle and empty cash cassettes have been recovered, DS Ian Proctor, of Accrington CID who is leading the investigation, said: “I urge anyone who saw the vehicle with the registration number LS59 VZH being dumped in the Pollard Street and Belgrave Road area to come forward.

“Also, if anyone spotted the vehicle prior to the raid on the bank I urge them to contact police on 101.”
