A TUTOR at the Image Centre in Leigh has been voted one of Britain's top make-up artists.
Melanie Doyle, who teaches make-up and beauty therapy at the Wigan and Leigh College centre, scooped runner-up prize at the National Warpaint Professional Make-up Artist Competition held in London.
The 35 year old from Glazebury entered the ‘exposure revelation’ category and had two hours to create a camera ready look on a model, which had to appear re-touched even though it had not been.
The model was then photographed and the image scrutinised by judges who included celebrity make-up artist Gary Cockerill, and celebrity photographer Alan Strutt, who has captured images of famous faces including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Madonna.
Melanie, who has been teaching for the past 12 years, was part of the team that set up Wigan & Leigh College’s successful hair and make-up course.
She said: “It was a fantastic feeling when my name was called, as I hadn’t gone into the competition expecting to even gain a place, let alone come second, so it was a really nice surprise.
“I entered because I’m always pushing my students to go in for competitions and I wanted to be able to guide them through the process with real and recent experience. The competition has given me a fantastic insight into the pressures and time management involved, and the experience will help prepare our students for future success.”

Well if he thinks these faces were worth photographing, I suggest he sticks to knitting! Give me an honest, no-make up face that doesn't need half a pound of muck to try and improve things, and as a bonus, their skin will still look nice when they are forty plus, just as my wife's does, and not like the surface of the moon, as most of the aforementioned do.
